Texas Sports Academy Online puts school in the morning and training in the afternoon

Texas Sports Academy Online runs two hours of school in the morning and training at a local gym or club in the afternoon. The school says a $10,474 state award covers its tuition.

Texas Sports Academy Online is a school for student athletes where the academic day fits before lunch. The school came up on Buying Sandlot on September 14, 2026, where the guest runs Texas Sports Academy.

It is a full school, not an after school program. A student who attends is enrolled there instead of at a public school. According to launch materials from Texas Sports Academy and Alpha School, the day opens with two hours of core subjects on adaptive software that paces to each student, with no live lectures and no classroom to report to. When those two hours are done, the school day is done.

The afternoon is for the sport. The school does not coach it. Students train with a local gym or club near home, and the school says that training is included in the tuition rather than billed on top.

The money comes from the state. The Texas Education Freedom Accounts program pays $10,474 per child for the 2026 to 2027 school year toward an approved private school, and Texas Sports Academy said in a February 24, 2026 announcement that the award covers its tuition in full. Without an award, the family pays the tuition.

Any Texas child eligible to attend public school can apply for an award, including children already in private school or homeschooled. Demand runs ahead of the money. The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts reported on August 13, 2026 that 101,600 students were funded in the program's first year and more than 100,000 were still on the waitlist.

The award amount and the waitlist apply to the 2026 to 2027 school year.
